Bags Under Eyes! How to Get Rid of  Swollen, Puffy Eyes?

1. What is Swelling?

Swelling can occur in any part of the body. It is an increase in the size or some change in the shape of an area on your body. Swelling may be accompanied by pain and a tingling sensation in the affected area. It causes much discomfort sometimes, not allowing you to do your regular activities normally. puffy

2. Causes of Swelling:

Causes of swelling can include:

If you have an injury on your ankle, hand or any particular area of your body, a local swelling might develop there. swelling swelling swelling

  • An injury, infections like abscess, burns and insect bites can cause localized swelling to occur.
  • Certain medications, or insect stings, may cause an allergic reaction in the body and lead to a generalized swelling.
  • Another kind of swelling may occur due to abnormal tissue growth.
  • A very common swelling occurs when you stand or sit in a position for too long, it may lead to swelling in the feet and ankles.
  • Body fluid accumulates in these areas due to the pull of gravity.
  • Accumulation of fluids is called edema.

3. Types of Swelling:

There are two main types of swellings that can occur in your body.

  • Localized swelling is in a restricted area, limiting itself to the place of injury.
  • Generalized swelling is all over the body, or it could be on the whole limb. Body fluids accumulate in the affected areas and this leads to the swelling.

4. Bags Under Eyes – Puffy Eyes:

Mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes,  are common as you age. With aging, the tissues around your eyes, including some of the muscles supporting your eyelids, weaken. a normal fat that helps support the eyes can then move into the lower eyelids, causing the lids to appear puffy. Fluid also may accumulate in the space below your eyes, adding to the swelling.

Ice treatment is most commonly used for acute injuries. If you have had a recent injury (within the last 48 hours) where swelling is a problem, you should be using ice. At-home remedies, such as cool compresses, can help improve the appearance of bags under eyes. For persistent or bothersome under-eye puffiness, eyelid surgery may be an option.

7. Treatment Options:

A. Medications:

If the swelling under your eyes is caused by an allergy, ask your doctor about prescription allergy medications.

B. Therapies:

These include:

  • Laser resurfacing.
  • Chemical peels and fillers.

Which may improve skin tone, tighten the skin and rejuvenate the look of bags under the eyes.

C. Surgery:

Depending on what’s causing bags under the eyes, during blepharoplasty, the surgeon removes excess fat through an incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid or inside the lower lid,  then rejoins the skin with tiny dissolving stitches.

blepharoplasty can also repair:

  • Baggy or puffy upper eyelids.
  • Excess skin of the upper eyelid that interferes with your vision.
  • Droopy lower eyelids.
  • Excess skin on lower eyelids.

How To Prevent and Cure Puffy Eyes:

Here are some tips that can help you prevent and cure puffy eye condition:

1. Limit Salt Intake:

Avoid eating salty foods right before going to sleep, Experts found out that salt tends to hold on to two times more water molecules. This prevents the proper distribution of fluid to the parts of the body it is most needed. The build-up of fluid usually happens under the eyes.

2. Exercise & Fiber Diet:

In order to alleviate fluid retention, you have to exercise and eat foods rich in fiber. Fiber helps flush out unwanted toxins and excess fluid. Exercise can also improve fluid circulation in our system. This also purges out excess fluid that can no longer be used by your body.

3. Do Not Sleep On Your Stomach:

The reason why sleeping on your stomach is not good is because it hampers the circulation in your body. You are preventing blood from flowing well into your brain. Your face is also pressed directly on the pillow. It blocks the correct flow of water. As a result, excess fluid settles in your orbits.

4. Avoid Excessive Crying:

Excessive crying also causes swelling of eyes. Our tear ducts emit water with a lot of salt content. The salt in it causes the orbits to swell. You can alleviate this problem by using a cold compress.

  • Try using a makeshift ice pack.
  • Place ice cubes on the center of a small towel.
  • Allow the ice to moisten the towel.
  • When the ice cubes have already melted enough, dab the towel on the swollen areas of your eyes.
  • Do not rub the towel.
  • Just press it on your skin.

5. Apply Eye Cream:

Apply an eye cream. If you are using an effective eye cream, you will not experience this problem often. Look for a cream with reliable ingredients such as Eyeliss, Phytessence Wakame, and Babassu.

6. Cucumber:

Cucumber eye press gives a cooling and relaxing effect on your eyes.

Directions:

  • Simply slice raw cucumbers and place a slice on closed eyes.
  • Recline and rest for 30 minutes and while waiting for the time relax your mind as well as your body.
  • Repeat as often as necessary until the swelling is gone.
  • The cooling effect is more defined if the cucumber is slightly refrigerated.

Caution:

Do not overuse cucumbers, tea bags, or other foods to reduce puffy eyes, foods contain bacteria that may cause an infection.

7. Elevate Your Head:

Elevate your head using several pillows. See to it that the pillows are not too high or it might cause a stiff neck. Doing this will minimize the chance of fluid retention under the eyes. Puffiness will be gone several hours after this.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. ACV can speed up the metabolic functions of your body. In doing so, your body can excrete impurities faster. It reduces bloating and makes your body look leaner.

9. Detoxify Your System:

If your body is bereft of impurities, alcohol and excess salt, you are less likely to experience puffy eyes condition. Try drinking a glass of freshly-squeezed lemon juice. Add two teaspoons of honey to sweeten it. The pulp from the juice can cleanse your system. Lemonade is also packed with Vitamin C. This vitamin can improve the health of the integumentary system.

10. Tea Bags:

Don’t throw tea bags just yet. You can still use them as an eye mask. Place damp tea bags over your eyes. Tea has detoxifying properties so it can get rid of impurities in your skin. It can also help draw out excess salt and alcohol in your system.

Caution:

Do not overuse cucumbers, tea bags, or other foods to reduce puffy eyes, foods contain bacteria that may cause an infection.

5. Best Puffy Eyes Remedy:

  • Drink plenty of water to avoid water retention and to keep your body cleansed.
  • Have a minimum of 8 hours sleep at night.
  • Manage well your emotional, mental and physical stress.
  • Avoid excessive amounts of alcoholic drinks.
